In the beginning of this monologue Hornbeck mentions the word cynical and starts to define it within himself. He talks of how all of his traits reflect him and no one trait outstands the other. He uses opposites to talk about himself and also show that he does not discriminate meaning that he is equal to all sides. In the second half he compares the peoples feelings toward Brady before and after Brady gave his teachings. Then he talks in poems about the town and Brady finally coming out into the open. Hornbeck shows his reflections on himself and also that of the town toward Brady in these lines.
